Anyone who knows me personally knows I've been in the Human Resources field for years. I have met some fantastic people along the way, including
Laurie Ruettimann and Paul Hebert.
With a diagnosis of bladder cancer, Paul recently found himself dealing with snagging the ideal chair in the chemo room instead of doing compensation analysis and such. He is sharing his journey on
peestrong. It's a great, sometimes raw look into the day-to-day of cancer.
I've had a good deal of respect for Paul as an HR professional for years. I give him kudos for sharing his experience with a very personal subject.
We're only four days away from the 2012 Chemo Cargo Golf Play Day! It's going to be a great time.
To ramp up the anticipation, here are a few snapshots from last year, courtesy of Neil Bloom:
MOON Organics and Giving Back
Founded by cancer survivor and Registered Nurse Susan Gonzales, MOON stands for "made out of nature."
As explained on her website,
"Susan started making her own skincare and personal care products while being treated for cancer when she started to examine the safety of her current beauty routine. She found that all of the products she was using contained harmful substances like parabens, petroleums and synthetic fragrances. Discovering the lack of truly natural and effective products, Susan began researching and experimenting with various oils, butters and herbs and developed several products that worked even better than all the expensive fancy serums and lotions she had been using. 'I didn't want to keep these discoveries all to myself. I wanted to share everything I was learning and creating with other women so they could benefit too and have real, effective and all-natural alternatives to cancer causing beauty products.' Using only what is provided by Mother Nature, she has uncovered unique and powerful combinations of ingredients that meet all your skincare needs. Susan is constantly researching and developing new ways to provide you with beautiful items that you will love." Susan is very generously donating sample sized lotions to Chemo Cargo for inclusion in our tote bags. She has also created a wonderful insert card, with a nausea-soothing recipe.
Please check out MOON Organics and support this small company that is doing all it can to support cancer patients!

Many of you have been waiting to hear the results of our recent fundraising evening at Buffalo Wild Wings. Lindsey Erickson, the wonderful Assistant General Manager of the Machesney Park location, informed us that after tallying the sales for the evening, the donation Chemo Cargo will receive totals $226.96. Patrons added an additional $40 to the donation jar, bringing the cash total for the evening to $266.96.
The Buffalo Wild Wings staff upped the ante, though. They held a contest within their team to see who could bring in the most items for the totes, AND they pooled their pocket money to purchase fleece blankets and thermometers. They donated 338 individual items! Here's the list:
12 fleece blankets
15 thermometers
4 puzzle books
25 notebooks
22 bottles of hand sanitizer
32 pens
34 toothbrushes
2 packages of dental floss
18 decks of playing cards
21 bottles of sunscreen
2 water bottles
18 snack bars
3 packages of gum
14 packages of mints
29 tubes of lip balm
60 pocket-sized kleenex packs
24 Biotene (dry mouth products) sample kits
We sincerely appreciate the care and effort the Machesney BW3 team put into our fundraiser!
