Where Cancer Patients May Find Free Wigs

Dec 26, 2010 by April
One of the most discouraging aspects of chemotherapy can be trying to cope with hair loss. Good wigs are not cheap. Fortunately, there are organizations that will provide patients with wigs free of charge. One of the easiest places to start is your treatment center. I received treatment through the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. They had a program sponsored by the Friends of UW Hospital and Clinics that provided wigs and fitting at no charge. The American Cancer Society maintains wig banks through its local chapters. Volunteers assist with choice and styling, and provide care instructions. Wigs for Kids accepts donations of ponytails to create wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.
